Curtin PL1 Carpark Upgrade: A Sustainable Transformation

Proven recently managed a major upgrade to the Curtin PL1 Carpark, addressing issues with its road surface, pedestrian access, ACROD parking bays, and drainage system.

On behalf of our valued client Curtin University, Proven Project Management recently managed a major upgrade to the Curtin PL1 Carpark, addressing issues with its road surface, pedestrian access, ACROD parking bays, and drainage system. The upgrade improved the carpark’s functionality while also emphasising sustainable practices.

The project involved a complete demolition of the existing carpark, including the removal of seal, basecourse, kerbing, and lighting. The carpark was then largely rebuilt within the same footprint, including new basecourse, pavement, seal, drainage infrastructure, wheel stops, kerbing, energy-efficient lighting, and parking guidance system cameras.

Enhancements also included improved pedestrian access with new footpaths and wombat crossings, four additional ACROD parking bays, and updated pavement markings and signage. The adjacent Townsing Road roundabout was also reconstructed and resurfaced and the carpark was embellished with soft landscaping and new irrigation throughout.

Sustainability was a key focus of this project, with existing mature perimeter trees safely retained, new underground Stormbrixx infiltration cells and above-ground raingardens being installed, and recycled basecourse and ‘Reconaphalt’ asphalt being installed. In addition, all demolished concrete materials from the original carpark were processed for recycling.
